When striving for success, there will be times when you encounter an ultimate challenge. You feel you are heading in the right direction only to meet with opposition. It’s when determined to make something work, and it doesn’t. Whether a friendship, a relationship or at the workplace, something just didn’t turn out the way you planned. Stuck in a difficult situation having to work with those who have hidden motives can be frustrating. We become discouraged and lose our enthusiasm when having to face antagonistic people. Notably when striving to deal with someone’s personal issues. Discouragement always follows disappointment or strife. This is when we experience low morale in the workplace, loss of love in relationships, and loss of compassion in friendships.
What can we do when resentment becomes predictable? Sometimes, we must face the truth. The truth being there’s no other choice but to accept that the relationship, the friendship or the workplace just isn’t right for us. It’s difficult to stay in an uncomfortable space with a positive outlook. What’s worse is when the verbal exchange always results in a competition which somehow leads to conflict.
SHOULD WE STAY OR SHOULD WE GO
Sometimes the best way to handle a bad situation would be to sidestep it altogether. Head for pretend mode, pretending the matter doesn’t exist, but it does. Regardless, you will have no choice but to interact. It’s during the interaction you experience tension within the relationship. Not only will there be no point contributing to the friction but there will be no winner in this contest. Everyone loses. Lose-lose. Ultimately, the innocent party will be the only one left holding the bag, forced to take complete responsibility. Finally realizing the situation will never change. Nevertheless, in this case, some kind of change is necessary.
TIME FOR CHANGE
Let’s face it, change is never easy. Whether it’s leaving a job to find a better one, ceasing a friendship, ending a relationship or… perhaps, changing something about you. You determine what the suitable course of action will be, although, it will depend on several factors: How the situation plays out? How the unpleasant incident influences your life? Does it affect your well-being? Is it a heavy burden, on mind, body, spirit, and soul? Losing sleep? Perhaps you toss and turn the negative emotions of the day churning them over well into the night. There are questions you must ask yourself that only you can answer.
Sometimes we focus excessively on the situation without recognizing the real problem. What are we missing here? Perhaps the issue is solely about the one who insists on wearing a mask. As they strive to conceal their inferiority complex by adopting a superiority complex. Which not only challenges you but everyone they suspect to be a potential threat to their happiness. Those they consider standing in the way of their success.
STRIVING TO BE YOUR BEST WHEN FACING CHALLENGE
How do we move from lose-lose to win-win? It’s not a matter of understanding the issue, it’s more in line with understanding the person we are up against, the one who challenges us. In this case, what are we prepared to do that may very well turn the situation around? We do what is essential. Do what’s right. Open our hearts and tune into someone else for a change. Support, encourage, and respect everyone you meet on the pathway of life. In other words, we build trust. Trust is the foundation of any successful relationship, which moves us from lose-lose to win-win.
A simple rule in dealing with those who are hard to get along with is to remember that this person is striving to assert his superiority; and you must deal with him from that point of view.
