Another year almost draws to a close. Usually, around this time, I review the year that was. This I do, to prepare for the year ahead. Perhaps there were things you could have done differently? Were there relationships you could have nurtured, but didn’t? Did you meet the goals for the year or did you fall short of expectations? Did you make new friends? What did you say hello to, and what did you have no alternative but to say goodbye to?
Critiquing a year in one’s life isn’t an easy task. There are things we must ponder. Perhaps there were mistakes, blunders, and setbacks. Why is it when something or someone matters the most, we think the least. We somehow ended up saying the wrong words because we were thinking wrong thoughts. It’s important we draw our attention to the good, the bad, and all the stuff that happens in between.
OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW
When we reassess the mistakes, we learn. When we take the time to reevaluate, we gain wisdom. Those valuable life lessons always seem to show up at the wrong time. But wait… perhaps there’s no such thing as the wrong time. Maybe it’s always the right time. It’s when we recognize what was, while still dreaming of what could be. See it for everything it was, understand it, and move on.
This bright new year is given me to live each day with zest. To daily grow and try to be my highest and my best.
Those fundamental life lessons bid us to open our eyes and when we do, it whispered, you did the best you could. One by one, each experience taught us what we needed to know. Perhaps what we needed to accept.
OLD YEAR LIFE LESSONS | NEW YEAR WISDOM
Lesson one: we may not have understood what we needed to see, but our hearts told us something different. There comes a time when we simply must remove the blinders we foolishly insist on wearing.
Lesson two: don’t repeat the same mistakes. There’s a saying, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Lesson three: goodbye isn’t necessarily bad, for it creates space for something better.
Let’s believe as one year ends, the new year will arrive with brand new possibilities, as it grants us the opportunity to begin again.
For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, and next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.
