There are endless difficulties and problems that besiege us throughout a lifetime whereby we end up burdened by the sheer weight of thought. We contemplate, ruminate, and mull over what we believe influences our life. Ultimately, over-thinking until we think our lives away. The issues roll in wave after wave hitting the shoreline of our state of calm. How can we achieve peace when we find ourselves amid a conflict barely coping? The key is to unload negative thoughts by focusing on guided practices.
Here’s a short list of suggestions:
ACHIEVE PEACE BY DOING THE THINGS YOU LOVE
- This one bears repeating: Pay more attention to what you do rather than what you think. When we do something for the sake of doing without over-thinking, we end up with peace of mind. I kid you not. Most of our issues stem from the way we think. There is harmony when we do the things we love with love, in love, through love, and for love.
BEWARE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP
- Here’s one of those things we tend not to consider: Who we hang out with could very well be the problem. We can avoid a host of conflicts if we draw away from those who insist on being a negative presence. How can we achieve peace when we get entangled with the wrong people? Our experience is different when we hang out with those we love, who love us in return, and who accept us for who we are.
CONNECT YOUR WAY TO PEACE
- There’s a time to get into solitude and a time to engage in connecting with others. There are many optimists out there and it’s time to find out where we can meet them. Join a focus group, a book club, or other clubs that hold relevant discussions. This can help you get away from heavy thoughts and into sync with others who encourage rather than discourage.
- Subscribe to uplifting online events. This will give you the opportunity to listen to engaging speakers. You can learn something new every day. Not only acquiring knowledge through others, but you discover something important about you.
DITCH THE ROUTINE
- We get stuck in routines and habits. However, it’s important to let go of the same old routines and try to get something new going. For example, an exercise routine is great, but it’s important to change up the workout or you can become bored and drop the activity altogether. When we do the same things repeatedly, we can lose interest. When we lose interest overall, we lose sight of what brings us peace.
CHOOSE TO CHANGE
- Take a chance because that’s when you can discover a new passion. When we refuse to change something that needs to be changed we end up stuck in an awkward space. This leads to adverse thoughts which brings us back to… what are you waiting for, and what do you have to lose? When you take a chance, it can lead to opportunities you never thought possible.
FIND PEACE THROUGH LETTING GO
- Keep a journal or a diary to record memories, thoughts, and experiences. It helps pinpoint in writing what we carry in thought. When our thoughts become words, we gain freedom by releasing it to paper. What we wrote could be the story line that reveals and depicts aspects to creating the peace we need.
- Keep a planning calendar or notebook to record things you don’t want to forget. It’s a place where one keeps their scheduled appointments, meetings, commitments, and bill payment due dates. The list of things you want to take on a road trip, the shopping list, or tasks left to do. Everything placed in one spot minimizes what you have to cling to in thought. Document it and release it. When we place everything on the calendar, it serves as a reminder.
- Have a notepad accessible by the bedside table and when bothered by something just jot it down, let it go, and get back to sleep. There have been studies, which show sleep deprivation as a major contributing factor to unease, worry, and anxiety.
WE ACHIEVE PEACE BY KEEPING LIFE SIMPLE
- We overdo, overreact, and overexert until we become overwhelmed. When we simplify our lives, we can achieve peace of mind. There is a time for doing and a time to take it easy. It’s when our lives become too complicated that we find it difficult to calmly settle. We are empowered to claim the kind of life we want to lead. We have options and it’s up to us to choose the right ones that can make life easier. When we refuse to relax, we fail to discover that the peace we seek rests within us.
You get peace of mind not by thinking about it or imagining it, but by quietening and relaxing the restless mind. Your nature is absolute peace. You are not the mind. Silence your mind through concentration and meditation, and you will discover the peace of the spirit you are and have always been.
