We live in a fascinating time in history. Never before did we have so much information with the touch of a keystroke. In this day and age, we find ourselves inundated with options, selections, varieties, and assortments. At times, flustered and frustrated by having to make decisions from all the choices that exist. Sometimes we make a wish for the fairy godmother to come along to make life more manageable. If only we had an advisor that told us which way to go, what color, what flavor, what location, what program to choose. However, if someone told us what to do, we wouldn’t have free will. The ability to select what is right for us. Nevertheless, more often than not, we tend to make an unwise selection. Perhaps, it’s because we are too focused on the wrong things. Focused on everything else except what counts the most, your dream.
YOUR CHOICES SET THE DIRECTION YOU’RE HEADED
Days, months, or years later we realize we made the wrong choices. Somehow, we ended up in the ill-suited career, with the wrong partner living in the wrong city. Headed in the wrong direction, going in circles, until you wake up and realize that this isn’t what you signed up for and perhaps isn’t what you had in mind. You had a vision, dream, aspiration to be, become someone other than who you are today.
THIS ISN’T WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE
So we squirm, we struggle trying to figure it all out, as we feel the guilt, shame, and remorse. Good, because when you reach that point whereby you feel most uncomfortable, that is when you can change your direction, change your focus, change your life. Sometimes things have to get confusing, complicated, painful, and awkward for you to discover that this isn’t where you are supposed to be. The place of uneasiness isn’t where we hoped to end up.
If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is compromise.
THE WAKEUP CALL
One day out of the blue, a story disclosed something you weren’t supposed to hear. The funny thing is, the person communicating the story had no idea the story is about you. Sometimes something goes around to come around to get our attention; this is what I mean by the wakeup call. Seeing the picture, we finally get it, now what? We contemplate the next step as we think about what our tomorrow can bring. We hold our head up, and with hope, optimism, and expectation we focus where it is we would rather be.
ROAD MISSED THE FIRST TIME AROUND
Choose to be optimistic instead of discouraged and choose encouragement over intimidation. Decide to see the cup full rather than empty. We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, hold our heads high, and opt to take the higher road. The road we somehow missed the first time around. The choices made in the past no longer matter, what matters most are the choices you make from now on. So, take the time to dream big. Don’t dwell on what could have been, focus on what could be and make those choices from where you are today, not from where you were yesterday.
