Every year I keep with tradition and create my new year resolutions, which by the way never pan out. However, this time I chose to make a wish list. Instead of making a list of everything that needed resolving, I decided to break away from ingrained patterns. Wishes are expressed differently from resolutions, as it is emotion driven from the place of hope, desire, and passion. Once this year ends, I can determine if the method was successful. Get in shape, check. Fall in love all over again, check. Discover something I never knew before, check.
ONE WISH, ONE DAY AT A TIME
Dreaming, exploring, and discovering. Dreaming of all the possibilities, exploring all the options, and discovering that everything is achievable. Don’t fancy the situation you’re in, time for a change. Dislike where you live, perhaps time to move. Don’t approve of the company surrounding you; maybe it’s time to network with new people. We create our lives one wish, one choice, one step, one day at a time. Forever changing or perhaps staying the same and complaining. Whining, grumbling, moaning about what isn’t working in our lives when we should take the opposite stance.
ADMIT YOU HAD ENOUGH
Imagine using a different approach changing the attitude, perspective, and the way we think. As we enter the new year, we have a sense that it’s a fresh start toward anything we envision and dream. Filled with desire and hope for wish fulfillment. As the old year drew to a close perhaps, we reflected on what worked in our lives and what didn’t. Those people, places, and things that no longer serve to benefit us.
Stop the habit of wishful thinking and start the habit of thoughtful wishes.
Our resolutions are the intent, the plan, the aim, the ultimate goal; however, it takes something more to make something happen. Perhaps, we require someone to dare us into action. It entails more than merely creating a list, which incidentally remains unchecked. What we must remember is that real change comes from deep within when we are sick and tired of the same old routines and the same old habits. It is when we finally say, “enough!”
FALLING INTO THE SAME OLD PATTERNS
As a new calendar year unfolds before us with a brand new resolution list in hand, we find what started as a grand gesture becomes nothing as we fall short. Resuming the same old patterns and the same day-to-day grind. Going in circles and coming back to where we were, that place of discomfort, the point of distraction. We had good intentions, did the right things only to return to the crossroads, somewhere between wishes and resolutions. At the intersection of being stuck in a state of ambivalence and procrastination, you know that place well. It’s when you have the goal in mind, but for some reason, you can’t get beyond the planning phase into the action phase.
RESISTANCE DOESN’T LEAD TO WISHES
So rather than choosing to stay firmly focused, persistent, and resolute, we draw a sigh and head apathetically toward what we interpret to be less work. We abandon the pathway to wishes through resistance, which ultimately ends in frustration. The bottom line is this: the change you want remains out of reach because it isn’t where your passion lies. We tend to pursue what we are passionate about, and resolution follows. Our wishes become our dreams; our dreams become our inspiration. The inspiration becomes the guiding light, the eureka moment whereby we become influenced, motivated, creative and resourceful in acquiring our greatest desires.
PASSIONATE ABOUT ACHIEVING YOUR WISH
When we feel inspired, enthusiastic, and encouraged then we can move away from what was to what can be. How bad do you want it, that job, that promotion, that fit body, that relationship, that success; all those wishes? When you seriously want something, you will go after it. It’s at that place of yearning, longing, craving for something better, where you discover that the only way to get there is to change something about you. Everything starts with you, with your ability to perceive, to imagine, and to visualize what can be. Then through choosing, declaring and acting on those wishes, you will arrive closer to those dreams and ultimately make that wish list your reality.
